Electrical Insulation for vehicles

A customer developing car batteries to power custom hybrid and electric cars, needed to source materials to incorporate a bulkhead failsafe. This not only had to provide electrical insulation but needed to be fireproof to meet automotive recommendations and have a degree of flexibility so as not to crack with stress from road vibration.

Having found Presspahn on the internet one customer gave us a call. Matthew was soon on the road with a variety of samples and fully equipped to provide a combustion demonstration. After detailed discussions several prototypes were created based upon cad cam files emailed to Presspahn.

Multiple solutions were found for various aspects of the battery system,  Formex was ideally suited to provide a thin but extremely capable insulator,  Polyester glass provided structural insulation and Mica provided the insulation in the highested temperature locations.

The customer eventually chose Presspahn after being impressed with the prompt personal attention following their enquiry and the promise of continued high quality service. He was keen to ensure that delivery lived up to this standard. “I am pleased to say that the close tolerance of precision cutting and rapid turnaround exceeded our expectations and as a result we will be entering full production on schedule.”

Electrical insulation is chosen for its ability to resist the flow of electricity, nonconductive, it can be supplied in flexible thin films, thicker flexible laminates or rigid laminates and can be offered to suit various temperature ranges.
